Restorative dental treatment is the repair and treatment of the hard tissue losses in the teeth that occur due to caries or reasons other than caries. It is a dental treatment that restores the patient’s aesthetic and functional loss.
People of all ages, professions and genders can easily choose. restorative dental treatment can also be applied to children and the elderly. The products used during restoration are biocompatible materials that provide an aesthetic appearance and do not damage the teeth. With the biocompatible materials used, losses on the hard surface of the tooth due to various reasons are treated and a pleasant appearance and a beautiful smile is provided.
Tooth decay can be defined as the destruction of the enamel, which is considered to be the hard tissue of the tooth, the dentine under it, and the hard tissue that sometimes covers the root surface. More carbohydrate-containing foods (sugar, starch, etc.), sugary carbonated drinks such as cola and cola, cake, chocolate, etc. It occurs especially when sticky foods come into contact with the tooth surface for a long time.
Tooth decay has different stages and each presents different symptoms and risks. When the decay first appears, there are few symptoms. As it progresses in size and the bruise grows, it causes sensitivity to hot and cold foods as well as sugar. Sometimes tooth decay causes a constant pain. If left untreated, the tooth becomes infected as decay reaches the nerves. Infection in the tooth can cause an abscess that can cause severe pain, swelling of the face and fever. If there is still no intervention in the later stages, this may require root canal treatment or tooth extraction.
Can tooth decay be prevented?
Yeah. Effectively brushing the teeth twice a day, using the right toothpaste and brush recommended by the dentist, regular care with dental floss and mouthwash, going to a dentist every six months are the measures that can be taken to prevent tooth decay .
Treatments applied in this area:
It is a mixture with different organic and inorganic fillers. They are defined as white fill because it is in the color of teeth. Composite fillings can be successfully applied on front and back teeth due to their resistance to chewing pressures, abrasion resistance and close to tooth color. The biggest advantage of these fillings is that they are aesthetic . In addition, since these fillings are well connected to the teeth, they support the dental tissues and prevent fractures and heat. Composites can be used not only to restore caries, but also for cosmetic effects by changing the color and shape of teeth. The most important disadvantage is that there may be sensitivities after the procedure. The colors of the fillings may change slightly over time with coloring foods such as coffee and tea.
Composite fillings are placed in the gap formed after the carious tooth tissue is removed, and each layer is hardened with a special light. When this process is finished, composite fillings are shaped and corrected according to the tooth. The residence time of composite fillings in the mouth is approximately 7-10 years . With these materials, huge losses in the front teeth can be restored, so it should be known that the patients’ attention to biting will extend the life of these restorations. The thing to be careful about in teeth restored due to abrasion is to use toothbrushes that are not too hard. These recommendations also apply to large anterior restorations.
In cases of excessive tooth damage, it is very difficult, and often impossible, to fully contact the classical fillings with neighboring teeth. With such a filling, food is stuck between two teeth, causing an uncomfortable feeling for patients and impairing gum health . Inlay and onlay restorations are the process of filling the cavity formed after the diseased tooth tissue is removed with restorations produced in the laboratory. These fillings are applications that make a very important contribution to the restoration and protection of a diseased tooth. Today, materials such as composite and porcelain are mostly preferred for inlay and onlay fillings , which are completely personalized and made by measuring from that tooth. Inlay and onlay fillings are used as a good solution in cases that cannot be restored with classical filling methods, but because it is desired to perform conservative treatment by removing dental tissues at a minimum level, it is used as a good solution in cases where tooth coating is not preferred.
The whitening procedure can be applied to teeth that are colored for structural and environmental reasons, with various materials. With bleached teeth, more aesthetic smiles can be achieved. This treatment option can usually be applied to all young and adult patients who have completed their tooth development, but it will be very good to apply in healthy mouths to avoid problems such as tooth sensitivity . Therefore, other dental treatments of the patient should be completed before the whitening procedure.
There are two types of teeth whitening procedures. The first is the office type treatment method. An intense gel is used for this type of whitening. Office type whitening can be made with two or three sets of procedures in one session and a few tones of tooth color can be lightened. Very successful results are obtained. Before tooth whitening is done, tartar is cleaned. Before the application, the patient’s teeth are isolated. Protective gel is also applied to the gums. After this stage, whitening gels are applied to the tooth surfaces. If necessary, the whitening process may take two or three sessions at regular intervals. The difference is observed after the gel on the teeth is cleaned. It will be useful to wait 24 hours to fully see the effect of bleaching. With this method, it is usual to whiten the teeth within an hour.
The second is home teeth whitening . A special whitening plate is prepared by the dentist for the patient. With the use of bleaching drugs for a certain period of time (8-16 days), the teeth become two to three tones of whitening. Combined bleaching methods, in which the home and office types of the patients are made together, depending on the tooth color, have been preferred in recent years.
1-) What should be considered after composite filling?
If anesthesia is made, food should be eaten after the effect of anesthesia has passed. If anesthesia is not applied, food can be eaten after treatment. Oral hygiene should be given importance, otherwise recurrent decay may develop under the composite filling over time and may result in filling failure.
2-) What are the risks that can be encountered after composite filling?
In some cases, a temporary sensitivity may develop after treatment. Sensitivity may take 6-8 weeks depending on the condition of the tooth. In the presence of ongoing pain after this period, the patient can apply to the clinic again. Depending on the use of tea, coffee and cigarettes, colorings may occur over time, these discolorations can be removed by the dental polishing process that the dentist will do.
3-) What should be considered after hairdressing treatment?
After the anesthetic effect (drowsiness), food can be eaten. There may be cold tingling and tenderness for 6-8 weeks. If the temporary filling is broken and falls, the patient should apply to the clinic again.
4-) What are the risks that can be encountered after capping treatment?
Due to the regeneration (repair) ability of the tooth and the oral care of the patient, this treatment may not always be successful. If a severe and persistent pain occurs in the tooth during this period and the tooth can be restored, root canal treatment is performed. Otherwise, surgical treatment is planned.
